The Princess Revival

The princess look is back, not just in one way but two, and I’m loving every minute of it! The fairytale princess look is generally defined by a sweetheart neckline, a fitted bodice that is usually intricately detailed and a large ballgown skirt with enough crinoline to keep a five foot radius around the bride at all times. If Cinderella would rock it, it’s a princess ballgown. This look continues to be sought after by so many brides for the obvious reason, what better chance will they have to be a literal princess for a day if not on their wedding day?! Designers like our very own Martin Thornburg have continued to make this look relevant by designing dresses that are just as spectacular and show-stopping as they were in the days of carriages, balls and princes searching for princesses at those balls. Here are three of my current favorite princess ballgowns that we have here at Amour Bridal as well as an exclusive sneak peek of the ballgown I am beyond obsessed with from Martin Thornburg’s Spring 2020 collection.

Coming Spring 2020!!

The other princess look taking the wedding gown industry by storm is the modern princess which was given a much needed makeover when Prince Harry married Meghan Markle in May 2018. Overall, this is a much more simple look than the fairytale princess ballgown and typically don’t have much in the way of lace or beading. The shape is completely different as well, favoring a body hugging silhouette and thicker fabrics such as crepe or matte satin. The dresses below are my favorite modern princess styles that we have in-store, as well as a sneak peek of the dress I’m dreaming about the most from Sophia Tolli’s Spring 2020 collection.

I am such a huge fan of both of these looks because they capture the two sides of every bride. The fairytale princess ball gown embodies the young, fun and playful spirit of every girl or woman who is approaching her wedding day; while the modern, fitted look plays up the sophisticated, new wife that she’s becoming. If I had it my way we would all have multiple weddings (same man, different dresses of course) so we could all be the princesses we are, in whatever way that may be, as well as the ones we still fantasize about being.

Featured wedding venue: Kindred Oaks

ne of my favorite wedding venues is Kindred Oaks located in Georgetown, TX. We've had the pleasure of participating in many of their open houses and have met some amazing brides and wedding vendors through them!

This wedding venue has the perfect balance of romantic ambiance and Texas country charm! With the strung lights and candle lit accents, you can't go wrong saying "I DO" at Kindred Oaks.

I had the opportunity to speak with Elaine Lincoln, co-owner with her husband Steve, and asked her some questions to help brides in their search for the perfect venue.

1) What is the most special thing about Kindred Oaks?

"We just celebrated 15 years creating all these wedding dreams and I must say the most special thing about Kindred Oaks are in fact, all those hundreds of couples who've celebrated here and that have gone on to build families and lives of their own. We had so many couples reach out and send us "before" and "now" pictures of their wedding day and then where they are now; with children, jobs, puppies, you name it. We published them on our website this past week and it's truly like I have a thousand grand kids out there, lol! So, so many of them are still friends, or Facebook friends and I get to catch up with them and it gives us great joy."

2) What is a piece of advice you would give brides searching for their perfect venue?

"Oh gosh, I suppose that I routinely tell them to think ahead 5 years and then try to look back and wonder what it was that made that day special. What is the feeling that you'd like to remember and then try to find the place that reflects that. And have fun while you're at it! If it stops being fun, step away!"

3) What is your most popular wedding package and why?

"We feature one basic package with lots of customization but it's hugely popular because we make it super simple, very affordable and we end up doing all the work, while they end up creating a lifetime of memories; all as it should be!"

4) Finally, what is something you wish brides knew ahead of booking a venue?

"I wish they knew that it really does take a level of experience to pull off a grand day like a wedding. You wouldn't trust your car to a DIY mechanic who just liked to look at cars but had never worked on them, and you should think of this the same way. There are a million things that can go wrong and you want someone who can preempt a lot of that pain or mitigate it with calm and reason. It's a big deal and we make it look super easy but it's because we're just really good at what we do and we're super blessed to have that honor."

I am so excited about some of our newest plus size wedding gowns! Below are 6 new arrivals that are perfect for brides with curves!

This gown is loaded with lace from the neckline to the hemline. This gown features covered buttons down the back, and a beaded belt to accentuate your waistline. The Full A-line skirt will allow you to twist and turn on the dance floor all night long!

Our sample is a size 20 in the color ivory/vanilla and is available to order in 3 lengths.

This sleeveless a-line gown features venice lace and a chapel length train. There is a removable center bodice so you can feel free to show a little skin or cover up if you feel more comfortable! The structure in this dress will pull you in at the midsection for an all around flattering look.

One of my all time favorite wedding dresses! This dress is light and airy! Even though it has sleeves you an pull off this dress any time of the year!

Another light and airy dress! This chiffon skirt is the perfect dress for the Texas heat! Similar to 6422 but this gown is sleeveless with a lace racer back and chapel length train. Prefer no slit? No problem! This gown is available to order with or without the slit!

Another full A-line lace gown! For a small fee, this gorgeous gown is able to ordered in a custom length which will help keep alterations costs down, just make sure to leave a minimum of 6 months!

Our sample is a size 18 in the color ivory/moscato.

This schiffli lace A-line gown features a chapel length train with sequins throughout. You can easily add a little more bling but adding a crystal embellished belt over the satin waistband.

Our sample is a size 18 in the ivory/tea rose.
